Google and SEMPO Canada Team Up

The Top Draw team has worked hard over the past decade to put both our Epiar technology and SEMPO Canada on the North American map. The SEMPO Canada Chapter (Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization), founded by Alex Brabant and I in 2006, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase awareness and promote the value of ethical search engine marketing in Canada.

The opportunity to organize and co-host a series of Canadian Search Summits with Google Canada is helping us to further this mission and we were honored by the invitation this spring.

The first SEMPO Search Summit presented by Google was held June 29th in Vancouver. Over 100 Google clients, SEMPO members, online marketing professionals and practitioners were in attendance. In addition to four dynamic presentations by Google, I enjoyed the opportunity to speak on Negative Keywords and co-present with SEMPO Co-Chair Alex Brabant on the SEMPO State of Search 2011 survey results.

Tweets Reach 225,000 People

The goal of this Summit was to create awareness of current advances in search, as well as the impact and opportunity of the internet on business and our personal lives. The conference also offered great insight from Google’s presentations on the SoLoMo trend (Social, Mobile and Local). Google Canada presenters did a wonderful job showing attendees how to leverage the power of the internet through these new technologies and various Google Tools. Feedback was very positive and after a quick study of the Twitter hashtag, #searchsummit, our staff determined the event reached over 225,000 people.

Plans are underway for future Google/SEMPO Canada joint events, including the now sold out Annual EO Canadian Conference, Steep and Deep, scheduled for January 27 – 29, 2012 in Whistler, B.C., where I look forward to co-presenting and moderating a presentation panel with Google.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Google Canada team and look forward to future initiatives within the Canadian business community to further promote and advance the awareness and opportunities of Search.
